How to Turn Off Restricted Mode on Youtube

Restricted mode is sort of like the parental control of the YouTube world. It’s an opt-in setting that uses Google to work out if content is considered objectionable and blocks it. Apparently the algorithm uses ‘community flagging, age-restrictions, and other signals to identify and filter out inappropriate content’, and the setting is often used in schools or by parents. If you want to turn restricted mode on or off on your device, here’s how to do it.

For all of these options, you’ll need to be logged in, and they works for each device (so you’ll need to repeat the process with others that you use).

If you’re in a school, library, or workplace, you’ll need the administrator’s permission to make any of these changes.

Remember, you won’t see any comments when you’re in restricted mode either.
